Stalking Jack the Ripper - Kerri Maniscalco (REVIEW)

Hello everyone, sorry for my lack of posts. I've been super busy with university but now that I'm up to date with all my assignments I promise I'm going to post more.

I can't even begin to explain to you how excited I was to read Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco. I've always been fascinated by stories of serial killers and what makes them tick. Although I've never been a big fan of historical books I knew that I had to read this one.

Synopsis - Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord's daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.

Against her stern father's wishes and society's expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle's laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.

To start with I want to say that Audrey Rose is a great character, although sometimes she did do things that I didn't agree with and that I thought was kind of stupid, but overall I thought she was a great female character. I loved that even though everyone told her she couldn't practice medicine continuously, she ignored them all and did what she loved. It showed a strong female character that was both smart and beautiful. I also really liked one of the male characters in this book. All I could think every time he had a monologue was how much he reminded me of Sherlock Holmes. Which can never be a bad thing can it???

I think that the overall story was very interesting and kept me gripped until the very end. There are a number of suspects throughout the book which makes you want to read constantly to figure out who the killer is. I also think that because the real jack the ripper was never caught it makes the story that much more interesting. I love the play on history.

The final thing I will say is that although I loved this book there were a few aspects that did bother me slightly. For example; I did guess who Jack the Ripper was and I actually found it to be quite obvious. I don't know if that's just me and I'm so used to mystery books that I'm just good at guessing. However, I gave this book a 4 star rating and the only reason it wasn't 5 stars was for a few small issues.

★★★★

P.S - THERE IS GOING TO BE A SEQUEL WHICH I AM THRILLED ABOUT!

Thank's for reading!
